In this particular example, the building is a 3 story school in downtown Oakland CA.

Underground specifications required that when Electrical Conduit is passing through any concrete footings, all PVC Coated Steel Conduit shall have an additional 1.5" layer of foam, creating a sleeve over the PVC coating, protecting it from the direct contact with concrete.

The grey PVC conduit shown was allowed in (some) situations. The areas shown with the spiralled half-lapped 20mil. tape, Fast Wrap's process, are to be filled with water-jetted sand and compacted to specification.   

A continuous spiral half lap can be seen throughout the 5" Rigid Steel conduit length and over the coupling area. With our latest techniques, a section of Heat- Shrink Tubing would be applied and "form-fitted" over the already taped coupling area physically Locking-Out any possible liquid intrusion and ultimately saving systems from corrosion attack and greatly extending electrical/data system life-cycles.
